This blog is a part of an after-school Hip Hop Production (Music and Visuals) My New York model program at JHS 44 in the Upper West Side. This program happens on Mon and Weds from 3:15-5:15
Essential Question: How am I part of Hip Hop Culture?
Foundation Statement: Students will explore the historical period in the South Bronx during the ‘70’s in which Hip Hop was formed. Through the study and practice of Hip Hop Elements (Human Beatboxing, Beat Making, and Graffiti Art) participants will discover ways to express themselves in the present day culture. How are these Elements different now from back in the day? Are there similarities? Study and practice will culminate with original pieces of music visual art that represent NYC life in ‘07-‘08. This will take shape in the creation of a CD with album artwork by each student, as well as live performances of the tracks.
